Good News for ReceptoPharm Drug Discovery
Posted on Jul 12th, 2006 by Paul Reid
We are happy to report that our research efforts are going well. As many of our shareholders know, ReceptoPharm’s main therapeutic focus is in the neurological (including pain) and antiviral areas.
Recent research highlights include:
- Confirming the activity of RPI-78M in animal models of the autoimmune disease Multiple sclerosis, in addition to identifying novel target genes through the use of micro-array studies, may suggest a broader activity by the drug than just as an immune suppressant. Reference to this work was recently published with the help of our collaborators at the MS Cameco Center in Saskatchewan. We are due to present more on this line of research at the 11th International Symposium on Immunobiology in Tahoe City in September.
- From our collaborative research efforts with Soochow University in China we have learned that the raw material for RPI-78M is a potent analgesic agent. We recently published that research also. Pain control is a major therapeutic area that is not well met. The use of such proteins in medicine is widely accepted in China and their reported success instills further motivation is us to continue this line of research.
- We are expecting to start our London based clinical trials by the year-end and on the back of that success we are moving forward with efforts to start clinical trials in patients with Multiple sclerosis here in the U.S. We will continue to update you on our efforts.
