Jeff Gottfurcht, who set out on March 28 to begin his climb of Mount Everst, has now reached Base Camp. At 17,500 feet, climbers stay at Base Camp for several nights and hike  during the day to get acclimated to elevations over 20,000 feet.

Jeff Gottfurcht trekked to Pheriche, Nepal at 14,000ft (about the height of Mt. Rainier, where he’s spending two nights to get acclimated to the altitude before hiking to Lobuche (15,500 feet).
